The capital city of Jakarta is on the northern coast of West Java, covering a 637.44 sq.km.area. It is populated by different Indonesian ethnic and other descendants such as Arabian, Chinese, Indian, Dutch etc.. Immersed yourself in this outlandish city, you might find it is a home to a dynamic contract between Western-style skyscrapers, modern urban lifestyle and traditional Indonesian culture. In recent years, Jakarta has expanded its facilities for visitor with luxury hotel, fine restaurants, exciting nightlife, modern shopping centers and many other tourist attractions such as Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, restored colonial period building, island resort in the Pulau Seribu and an extensive beach recreation complex called Ancol.

Sites 

The National Monument Monas

The National Monument is one of the many monuments built during the Soekarno era of fierce nationalism. The 137 meter tall table marble obelisk is topped with a flame coated with 35 kgs. of gold, and represents the people’s determination to achieve freedom. It tower over Merdeka Square and serve as Jakarta’s most prominent landmark. The monument is open to the public and an elevator carries visitor to the top, offering a bird’s eye view across the city to the sea.

Indonesia in Miniature Park

The idea behind Taman Mini is to give you a glimpse of diversity of the Indonesian archipelago in a single location. This extensive park represent Indonesia’s 27 provinces and their traditional characteristics, reflected most strikingly in the exact regional architecture of the province. It has its own orchid garden in which hundreds of Indonesian orchids varieties are grown. Besides, there are also a bird park with a walking aviary, a fauna museum and recreational grounds with a swimming pool and restaurants, besides a richly decorated building in Balinese architecture housing contemporary art crafts from different region of the country.

Pulau Seribu

This group of island scatted across the Java Sea to the north of Jakarta offers a haven away from the bustle of city life. Golden beaches fringed with coconut palms line the sea; surrounding water are a paradise for snorkelers and scuba divers. The multi-colored coral reefs are home to a phenomenal variety of tropical fish. The islands can be reached from Taujung Priok or Pasar Ikan ( Sunda Kelapa) by ferry or by chartered boat. Here we offered bungalows, restaurants, diving and sailing facilities for tourism in the islands developed for tourism

Events

Wayang Orang / Dance Drama

You can see the performance of some dancers dressed in traditional Javanese costume in Performing Arts Theatre every Wednesday starting at 8.15 pm till midnight. Gamelan, Indonesian traditional musical instrument, becomes the sound and music for this dance drama.The stories performed are usually taken from Mahabrata and Ramayana Hindu epics.

Ketoprak

A modernized version of Wayang Orang, ketoprak has gained more popularity these days for its versatility. It's also accompanied with gamelan music but simpler in costume and dialogue. You can see ketoprak show at Gedung Kesenian Theatre every Wednesday and Thursday evening starting at 8 pm.

Traditional Indonesian Dance

Staged in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah every Sunday from 9 am - 2 pm and at Ancol Art Market every Saturday evening or Sunday morning, traditional dances from various regions in Indonesia are bound to mesmerize the beholders.

Wayang Kulit / Leather Puppet Shadow Play

Performed every second and last Saturday night of the month at the Central Museum in Jakarta, wayang kulit offers unusual and unique sight.

Gamelan Music

Every Sunday morning, Sundanese Gamelan music is performed in Central Museum.

Pameran Seni Rupa/ Art Exhibition

You can see permanent exhibition at Balai Seni Rupa, Jalan Taman Fatahillah, Jakarta. Open daily.

Oceanarium

You can watch sea lions and dolphins performing superb acts at Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, every day, from 9 am to 6 pm.

Keong Emas Imax Theatre, TMII

'Beatiful Indonesia', the Imax film, was initiated by former First Lady Tien Soeharto to present the beauty of this nation from many different aspects. The Cinema theatre screens 'Beautiful Indonesia' Mondays to Fridays from 11 am to 3 pm. Sundays and holidays from 10 am to 4 pm while on every Saturday it performs a special theme.
